One Way to Judge a City

montgomery street rush hour bartOne meaningful to judge a city is by how it affects people who move here from other places. Does it make them overall better or worse?

I can think of a few women who I admire and respect, whose personality and attitude have been badly damaged shortly after they moved to SF. They are chronically tired, stressed out and hamsterized by their jobs. They have become super flaky because of being tired and stressed out, and are generally not as warm and fun as they used to be. If that’s the price they pay for moving to a “fun” “big” city, is it worth the sacrifice? I guess each of them will have to answer that question for themselves.
